It's been a long, long time since posting here. Like, 3-kids-born-and-a-non-music-business-begun-grown-and-sold Long. But here I am. Alive and well, surviving this global pandemic as I sincerely hope that you are, too. I've been thinking about my music from years ago, and thinking about new music... we all have a strange mix of lots of time and no time at all these pandemic days, don't we?

recently published a book in the Bloomsbury Press 33 1/3 series about Elvis Presley's album, From Elvis in Memphis. It's a great read, both for Elvis fans and non-Elvis fans. Music critic and writer Greil Marcus (author of Mystery Train, Lipstick Traces, & The Old, Weird America: The World of Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes) says of Eric's book... "[A] fine piece of work that opens up the album in new ways." If you love Elvis, or have been curious about him, or even if you think you hate him, this could be a good read for you.

I'm wishing you and yours well during these crazy times. The light at the end of this tunnel is starting to glow a little brighter!

DC Improv show & featured article in Luri & Wilma Magazine

I'm  belatedly posting this bit about a show and interview I recently did for Luri & Wilma Magazine.

Luri & Wilma is a DC based, eco-friendly fashion and life-style blog and quarterly print magazine that dubs themselves "the smart magazine for smart ladies". I had a wonderful time working with Amber Paranick, the interviewer and author of the article I was featured in, and Charlie Heck, the Editor-in-Chief of this super cool, independently published print publication.

The end-of-summer issue features local ladies of performance and hosted a sold-out release event held at the DC Improv Comedy Club on Aug 14th. I was honored to play for a fantastic audience and to share the bill with fellow ladies of song and a slue of female comics. "Still Singing" - A Benefit Concert at the Kensington Arts Theatre, MD

I am thrilled to be performing at this special benefit concert to raise awareness of perinatal loss and provide a strong support system for those that are in need. This event is meant to bring together families, friends, colleagues, and any one else who has experienced this type of loss or know someone who has.

Stillbirth, miscarriage, and infant loss are unfortunately all too common. They are under-recognized and under-talked about topics. The statistics are astounding. Sources may vary, but approximately 1 out of every 4 pregnancies end in a loss and 1 out of 160 pregnancies end in the birth of a stillborn baby.

The "Still Singing" Charity Event will be held at the Kensington Arts Theatre in Kensington, MD from 7:00-10:00PM on November 23, 2013.

There will be a raffle with some pretty fantastic prizes including autographed memorabilia from area sports teams such as The Washington Nationals, Capitals, and Wizards, the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, a signed album by the Minneapolis Alt Rock band Motion City Soundtrack, and much more!

ALL proceeds go to First Candle Charity, a charity dedicated to raising money for stillbirth research and maintaining healthy pregnancies.

Suggested donation of $10 per person (cash or check), which will be collected at the door.

Hello Washington D.C.

After lots of touring over last 6 months, I'll be spending the next few in my new home-city of Washington D.C. ... but indeed, these wheels continue to turn! While exploring this new music scene, I'll be hosting an open mic night in the happening neighborhood of H St. in downtown D.C. Here's a winter update to warm your bellies.

❊ I MOVED!: I’ve recently relocated from NYC to Washington, D.C. I had never been to our nations capital much before, but I’m pleasantly surprised by it! It’s hard to match up to NYC and I don’t think I’ll ever try to compare the two, but I will say that I love how manageable D.C. is, how lovely the natural Rock Creek Park is meandering throughout, how awesome it is to have family living just across the state line in VA... and D.C. has some pretty killer coffee joints, Qualia Coffee being my current favorite (the beans are roasted on site; pretty awesome indeed). I'm planning on staying put here through the spring and summer so that I can get to know my new home and discover the local music scene of D.C. and near-by Baltimore. Touring should resume in late summer/early fall and I hope to get some fun local DC stuff happening soon. Will keep you posted on that.

My Music at Starbucks!

When you stop in for your favorite winter time coffee drink at Starbucks, keep your ears peeled for two songs off of my recently released album, Jump With a Child's Heart. The songs: "You & Me & the Evergreen" and "Hell's Gate".

I love how the sea monster in my song "Hell's Gate" ties into the origins of todays coffee king. The name "starbucks" was inspired by Moby Dick and was chosen to call to mind the romance of the high seas and seafaring traditions. Pretty cute for the once-upon-a-time mom-and-pop coffee shop in Seattle. As for "You & Me & the Evergreen"; this is prime evergreen season. Seems pretty appropriate that it'll get to be heard by millions over the upcoming winter. These tunes can be heard at thousands of Starbucks locations around the world over the next few months. I hope you get a chance to hear one of them while buying your morning pick-me-up. And thank you Starbucks for supporting independent music!

Today, the official release of the album, I was listed on the Country Music Televisions website along side some famous people, many of whom played on the freshly released The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams (a compilation album that draws its inspiration from previously-unheard lyrics contained in Hank Williams' notebooks).

Annie Crane: Jump With a Child’s Heart

With so many musical artists today relying on gimmicks, image, and artificiality to thrive, it is refreshing to hear a musician as authentic as Annie Crane. Her latest album, Jump With a Child’s Heart, shows that she puts her whole, honest self into her work. The music is personal, relatable and inspiring. Jump tells amazing stories about life using classic American Folk techniques. At the same time, Crane invokes even older Celtic traditions. She has a unique ability to effortlessly mix these deep-rooted music styles with modern topics such as life in the city.

Crane writes music about the struggles and joys of her life, as well as the things that inspire her. Her topics include her marriage, money problems, her home of New York and death. Literary masters, T.S. Elliot and J.D. Salinger also make appearances in Crane’s music. “I hate way too cool for school. Screw ‘em and the vintage they rode in on,” she sings in the track “Salinger said…” This is the same anti-“phony” attitude that Salinger’s Holden Caulfield was famous for inCatcher in the Rye.  The song goes on to describe the courage it takes for Crane to be authentic to herself, in a society that expects female artists to play stereotypical roles.

Another track, “Money Only Hates Me,” is one that many will be able to relate to during this economic crisis. According to Crane’s official website, the song is about a time in 2008 when she lost her voice and was unable to perform.  In the chorus Crane simply states, “Cause money, money only hates and it leaves me. Money’s not my friend.” This is one of the more simplistic of Crane’s lyrics, but necessarily so. Part of Crane’s songwriting talent is that she writes about the simple things we encounter daily, and complex thoughts and issues that sometimes plague our minds.

Apart from Crane’s amazing songwriting capabilities, her musical talent is incredible on its own. Her voice is absolutely beautiful as she blends the Celtic and folk styles into her own.  She can also hold her own on the guitar. She is accompanied by a slide guitar, percussion, a bass, a trumpet, a banjo, and a cello. The accompanying musicians add warmth and depth to and already impressive album.

The release party for Jump With a Child’s Heart takes place in New York on October 1^st. After that, you can catch Crane in Columbus on November 12^th at Kafe Kerouac.
